The Teacher's Choice (to indicate whether the teacher enjoyed teaching because the students were kind and engaged.)
SCORES are written down on the taped portion of the whiteboard near the sound system. Students will point to the spot.
Possible daily point total: 10 points.
Part 1: Entrance - students come into the classroom quietly and sit on their assigned areas of the color carpets (see the seating charts at the bottom of the rosters). Students will:
sing the "Brick by Brick Entrance Song".
Do echo patterns with 4-beat body movements,
Do echo patterns singing 4-beat melodies, and
Have students read rhythm flash cards. You'll find them in the top drawer of the plastic drawer unit under the computer.
When the song ends:
share the objectives for the day, and
pick two Concert Masters and let them sit in the two black chairs in the back. They are your class helpers. They will each choose 3 "star students" who have distinguished themselves by behavior or performance at the end of the class. The students they choose get cat cash (and so do the CMs)
SCORE the Entrance. 2 pts if the entire class participated without redirects. 1 pt if most students participated with some redirects. 0 pts if too many students did not participate or there was too much redirection required. (2 represents near perfect, 1 represents normal, 0 represents unacceptable)
Part 2: Movement - students spread out and:
stretch to the stretch video, and
dance to the movement videos.
After the last movement video, SCORE the Movement. 2 pts for full class participation. 1 pt if most students stayed focused. 0 pts if too many are off task.
Part 3: Lesson - students return to their seats.
Teacher guides students through the lesson part of the class.
At the end, SCORE the lesson. 2pts for lots of participation. 1pt for most students on task. 0 pts for too many off task.
Part 4: Wrap Up - play the wrap up music. Students will line up to leave and sit down in their number order. Concert Masters remain in their chairs.
Teacher will ask students to describe what they learned/did in class.
Concert Masters will each choose 3 star students and give them 5 cat cash bucks each. The Concert Masters will receive 10 cat cash bucks for serving.
Teacher will SCORE Wrap Up: 2 pts if all were quiet and engaged in recap. 1 pt if some students were talking or off task. 0 pts if too many were off task.
Teacher's Choice - give the students a score for your enjoyment of the class. If they were near perfect, delightful behavior, give them 2 points. If they required the normal amount of redirection, give them 1 point. If they argued with each other and/or (multiple students) were disrespectful to you, give them 0 points.
"Brick by Brick" - example video
Watch this demonstration video before class to prepare. The full song with 5 minutes of track allows students to practice echo rhythm patterns, read rhythms, sing pitches and melodic phrases - anything to develop their music skills.
The track is 5 minutes. The students know the song already, but they will need you to lead the activities. Rhythm cards are in the top multi-color drawer.
Conservatory Rotation:
This is the entrance song for 2nd through 5th grades. Use the minutes after the initial melody to develop their music skills. Rhythm cards are in the top multi-color drawer.
